Pat down is the process where a person is not checked in public. A TSA officer of the same gender will initiate the pat-down, which includes touching the buttocks, genitals, and breasts as well. These procedures were controversial because most of them felt uncomfortable when they were touched inappropriately.
The pat-down procedure created a public outcry where the public raised their voice saying they are not comfortable with the checking procedures carried out by the agents at the airports. There is another advanced procedure where the TSA carry out the screening using full-body scanners. These scanners let the agents know what the person or the passenger is carrying. The passengers are asked to raise their hands and an agent sees the scan which is taken front and back of a person.
If the agent finds any abnormality in the scanned image, the passenger will be asked to go under the pat-down procedure. So, carrying scissors or any other prohibited items underclothes is highly impossible due to their efficient way of checking a person at the airport. So, the TSA has some rules regarding carrying the scissors. The TSA will only let you carry scissors if the scissors are completely encased and packed.
The scissors must be wrapped up completely. Scissors are always allowed to be carried in checked bags. Generally, scissors are used to cut papers, clothes, etc. Even though scissors are a normal daily use product, it can still be used as a weapon to harm someone. Airport security considers scissors very dangerous.
There is nothing officially called TSA approved scissors. The scissors blades which are less than 4 inches from the tips are allowed to be carried in the carry-on bags. Many scissors are available online which have less than 4 inches blades. Many scissors sellers name scissors as TSA scissors.
This is because these scissors are small and compact, and can be carried onto the planes with no problems. If the blade of the scissors which you are carrying is more than 4 inches then the TSA officers will confiscate it.
The officers strictly check or screen each and everything in your bags. All hazardous materials, pointed or sharp objects and weapons such as revolvers, firearms, pistols and rifles are prohibited in your hand luggage.
You should also note fireworks and gunpowder is banned in all forms, including the poppers that kids sometimes play with. The good news is that you can carry traditional Christmas crackers on your carry-on baggage if you fly with airlines like Aer Lingus — but do check the rules of your airline to avoid disappointment!
