Why is stratocaster pickup slanted

To recap, an angled pickup boosts low bass frequencies and enhances treble response. The slanted single-coil was an attempt by Fender to add a brightness to the treble strings for a similar twang.

Messages 10, Ok, I've been looking at pics of Strats and 'Strat like' guitars, and I was struck by the fact that every time there is a standard 3 single coil configuration, the bridge pickup is angled in the typical Stratocaster manner.

Even on different non Strat body designs that have 3 single coils. What is the benefit of the angle? Why did Leo design it like that? Is it to brighten the treble strings and darken the bass ones? Why are bridge humbuckers not angled as such? Is there another technical reason that I missed? Would be great to get some feedback from other members Keyser Soze Member.

And who would want that? Highway Chile , Dec 31, Because the strat would look really really weird if it was't. Maybe Leo just did it for looks? Maybe the angle wasn't even his idea. Lets not forget there were other people working with Leo on the design of the Strat.
