What do you think is your best feature and why? Any tips on looking good in photos? Never leave the house without makeup! What beauty lesson would you pass on to your teenage self? A lesson I would pass on would be to appreciate how good-looking you are — and know you will never look this good again!
What age did you feel most beautiful and why? During Dynasty. I look at some of those shots and think, 'Wow, girl. You were good-looking'. Where do you stand on contouring? Is it worth the effort? I think a woman should do everything she can to make herself look as good as possible. Any tips you can share to make eyes look bigger and brighter? Well-applied makeup can totally enhance eyes.
By choosing the right shades and blending properly, anyone can make their eyes look bigger and more dramatic. Do you think lipstick suits everyone? Lipstick is the most glamorous of cosmetics. Wearing a bright and bold lipstick will instantly make anyone feel glamorous and confident. What does a lipstick shade say about a woman? It can say lots — depending on the shade. Young women love very thick, full eyebrows now. Do you like the thick eyebrow trend? Joan loves make-up and learned her tricks from her mother and from leading Hollywood make-up artist Whitey Snyder, who also worked with Marilyn Monroe.
Since the age of 21 she has been doing her own face she always applied her own make-up for Dynasty. She says her eyes are small so she ruthlessly lines them. Her must-haves for any woman over jackets, high heels, black opaque tights, dresses and sleeves.
Joan believes jewellery should be bold and says if a woman looks great, chances are she feels great. The best exercise Joan takes is pushing her chair back from the table once she has eaten enough. Eat less. She avoids white bread, white sugar, doughnuts, biscuits, processed meats and cheeses, pizza, salt, pepper and too much alcohol.
If you need to snack, more broccoli. Amazingly Joan can still do the splits when she feels like it and she also does them when exercising with her trainer, which she does twice a week. She also swims every day but believes over-exercise wears out the bones and sinews. Joan may be a grandmother three times over but she refuses to behave like a woman in her 80s. She is abreast of social networking trends such as Twitter. She continues to write books — her most recent was the autobiography Passion For Life — and she also continues to contribute to The Spectator magazine as a guest diarist, something she has done since the late s.
Fellow actor Anthony Newley was a serial philanderer, as was Swedish singer Peter Holm Music executive Ronald Kass was a cocaine addict. Super anti-drugs. We all went out to a disco and the next thing I knew it was six in the morning and I was dancing by myself. Never again. Joan has not previously said much about her relationship with Robin Hurlstone.
